Maltese Medical Conditions and Disorders
A well bred Maltese is a healthy, energetic dog full of vitality and personality. All dogs carry potential for serious conditions. Many breeds have more risk toward a particular condition. The following conditions are sometimes seen in the Maltese breed.
Hypoglycemia - is low blood sugar.
Patellar Luxation- The kneecap is a small bone which sits over the knee joint can move due hereditary or injury.
Liver Shunts -This is a serious congenital liver condition that usually requires surgical correction.
White shaker disease - is a tremor condition seen in small white dogs.
Maltese are prone tear staining and blocked tear ducts.
The life span of the Maltese is 14 to 16 years.
